Ottomania exhition opened doors at EXPO 2016

A special exhibition which is a selection from thousands of pieces of material belonging to Hisart Live History and Diorama Museum opened its doors to visitors at the first floor of EXPO 2016 Antalya Congress Centre.

The exhibition was curated with original materials like costumes and diaromas that are displayed at Museum of Live History which witness wars, historical events and turning points that shaped world history. It lifts the lid of history in an unconventional way.

Conquest of Constantinople, Turkish Italian War of 1911, Tripoli Theatre of that war, Balkans War and First World War are among the events that exhibition depicts through displaying diaromas, original costumes, accessories and weapons from those areas.

Curator of the exhibition, founder of Hisart Museum Nejat Çuhadaroğlu noted that exhibition spanned wars and history from 1451 to 1923. He said:

“There are more than 40 mannequins with original costumes and accessories. There are hundreds of real objects. Moreover, there are paintings and other works of art. There are flags and banners and weapons and accessories belonging to those periods.”

Çuhadaroğlu build the models in the exhibition himself. He said that the hardest part was finding costumes, accessories and objects belonging to certain historical period. The most special section of the exhibition for him was 1453 diaroma, he added. “The conquest of İstanbul by Ottoman Turks is very important for both Turkish and world history. The diaroma which depicts the event is one the most beautiful pieces of the exhibition. Visitors love it and I also have a special affinity to that piece”, said Çuhadaroğlu.

Mayor of Antalya Metropoliatan Municipality Menderes Türel visited the exhibition with Secretary General of EXPO 2016 Antalya Agency Fırat Işık. Türel took information about costumes, accessories and diaromas from curator Çuhadaroğlu. He expressed his appreciation. Çuhadaroğlu handed the book “Çanakkale – Cephe Gerisinde Savaş” (Çanakkale – War Behind the Fighting Lines) and catalogue of museum to Türel as gift.

Çuhadaroğlu’s original historical items that he has acquired over the years as a collectioner and his special models depicting moments in history which he builds with a technique called diaroma meaning 3D modelling, creates a meaningful point and makes this exhibition one of a kind.

Ottomania exhibition will stay open to visit on the 1st floor of EXPO 2016 Antalya Congress Centre until October 23.
